Description

Give reusable materials a new purpose by transforming repurposed T-shirts into colorful braided dog toys. Participants will cut, knot, and braid strips of fabric to create durable toys that can provide enrichment and play for local dogs.

Completed toys can be donated to organizations that serve animals or assist pet owners experiencing hardship. Suggested nonprofits and drop-off options will be provided in the project instructions.

Your project includes:

  • Repurposed T-shirts
  • Scissors
  • Step-by-step cutting and braiding instructions
  • Suggested nonprofit drop-off options

Each kit is designed for a group of up to 10 volunteers. This hands-on project is a good fit for families with older children, schools, businesses, and other groups. It combines creativity, sustainability, and service in one activity.

How it works:

  1. Pick up your prepared project from the Volunteer Center of Lubbock.
  2. Cut the T-shirts into strips using the measurements in your instructions.
  3. Separate the strips into groups and secure them with a knot.
  4. Braid the fabric tightly and knot the opposite end.
  5. Choose a suggested nonprofit and deliver the finished toys.

Each completed toy provides enrichment for a dog while keeping reusable fabric out of the landfill.

Community Service Verification: If you are completing this project to fulfill community service requirements, the finished project must be returned to the Volunteer Center of Lubbock. VCL staff must receive and review the completed items before service hours can be verified. Projects delivered directly to another organization cannot be verified by VCL.
