Description

Create a welcoming place for someone to write, reflect, and feel supported. Participants will decorate journal covers and add an encouraging message, verse, lyric, or note to the first page.

Completed journals can be donated to organizations that support youth, survivors, families, and others navigating difficult seasons or beginning a new chapter. Suggested nonprofits and drop-off options will be provided in the project instructions.

Your project includes:

  • Journals
  • Pens
  • Markers
  • Step-by-step instructions
  • Encouraging message ideas
  • Suggested nonprofit drop-off options

Each kit is designed for a group of up to 10 volunteers. This thoughtful project is suitable for individuals, families, schools, businesses, and other groups. No artistic experience is needed—just a willingness to create something meaningful for someone else.

How it works:

  1. Pick up your prepared project from the Volunteer Center of Lubbock.
  2. Decorate the cover of each journal with a welcoming design.
  3. Write an encouraging message on the first page.
  4. Review the suggested nonprofit options included in your instructions.
  5. Deliver the completed journals so they can be shared with people who may benefit from them.

A few kind words can help the recipient feel welcomed, encouraged, and less alone.

Community Service Verification: If you are completing this project to fulfill community service requirements, the finished project must be returned to the Volunteer Center of Lubbock. VCL staff must receive and review the completed items before service hours can be verified. Projects delivered directly to another organization cannot be verified by VCL.
