A new mission

In 2025, we clarified the mission of the Volunteer Center of Lubbock.

Our previous mission spoke to purpose, but didn’t fully capture what we do each day. So we stepped back, defined our core values, and carefully chose language that reflects the work we lead across our community.

Through that process, one idea stood out: meaningful experiences. Our work brings people into opportunities that are engaging, accessible, and designed to create lasting impact.

Today, our mission reflects that clarity:

To help people serve, lead, and connect through meaningful experiences.

806ServeFest

“It helped me grow into a leader and leave a positive impact on others.”

-806Servefest Attendee

In 2025, we introduced 806 ServeFest, a free, community-wide event designed to make service accessible to everyone.

We believe volunteering should never be behind a paywall. ServeFest brings people together in a fun, welcoming environment where they can take action on-site and discover new ways to stay involved.

In its first year, 298 participants came together to complete over 500 hours of service.

Youth Programs

In 2025, we strengthened our youth programs by focusing on where support matters most.

Youth in Service shifted to better equip sponsors and educators, delivering ready-to-use service projects and resources that make it easier to engage students. This approach allows schools to participate more consistently and with greater impact.

HYPE was refined to serve a smaller group of students more intentionally, creating space for deeper leadership development and connection.

Youth for Impact continued to provide hands-on service experiences, helping students step into leadership through real, community-based projects.

A Permanent Home for Service

In 2025, construction began on the Volunteer Center of Lubbock’s future home.

This space is designed to serve as a central hub for connection, leadership, and service in our community. For the first time, we will have a place built specifically for this work—one that allows us to gather, train, and serve more effectively.

Our new building will provide space for leadership development, hands-on service projects, and collaboration with partners, creating more opportunities for people to get involved in meaningful ways.

We look forward to opening our doors in Spring 2026.

Leadership

In 2025, we expanded our leadership programming to create more consistent and meaningful growth opportunities.

We introduced a monthly leadership series, Leading for Good, led by Executive Coach Jason Vinson. This cohort-style approach allows participants to build relationships, apply what they learn, and grow over time.

We also launched quarterly workshops in partnership with Lubbock Area United Way, focusing on nonprofit-specific topics such as grant writing and fund development.

Together, these programs are equipping leaders across our community with the tools and confidence to make a lasting impact.

I have always looked at my leadership as just a role in my company, yet after your last session I see it as a mindset.

-Leading for Good Participant

My entire team is loving these classes. We constantly talk about them in our department. Ready for our next session!

-Leading for Good Participant

I’ve taken many of your leadership principles and applied them to my personal relationships. Setting healthier boundaries has changed my life.

Pink Tie Gala

In 2025, we launched the Pink Tie Gala, a new signature event to bring our community together in celebration of service.

For the first time, we created a dedicated space to recognize outstanding volunteers through our Heart of Service Awards, connect with partners, and share in a meaningful and memorable experience.

The Gala also established a sustainable way to support our work, helping us raise the funds needed to continue growing our programs and expanding our reach.
